The system prompt

The system prompt holds the instructions for your project’s model. It sets how the model behaves in that project’s GenUI experience: the tone it takes, what it should try to do for the user, and how it should use your catalog items to do it.

Unlike your catalog and your models, which are defined at the organization level, the system prompt belongs to a single project. A project version pins a specific version of it.

The system prompt is versioned, and every published version is immutable. To change the prompt you create a new draft from whichever version you are viewing. The draft starts as a copy of that version’s text, and you can edit and save it as many times as you like while it stays a draft.

When the prompt reads the way you want, you publish the draft. Publishing freezes it as a new numbered version that can never change again. There is one draft at a time, so after you publish you create the next draft when you are ready for the next change.

A brand-new project has no prompt yet. The first draft you create starts empty.

Publishing is a person’s call, so only a member of your team can publish a version. An agent connected to your project can read the prompt and work on a draft for you, but it cannot publish. That decision stays with your team.
